In addition to being able to perform search and rescue operations, this kind of a snake robot can also perform 3D mapping/ navigation etc.

Fromo Robot
Fromo is a toy with a purpose: to teach kids (and adults) some programming concepts while they're having fun.
Based on the kickstarter startup, ROMOTIVE, Fromo aims at porting the IOS project to Android(being the more popular of the two).
